The sand in your filter should be changed on a regular basis; this period depends on the amount of use your pool gets. Heavily used commercial situations require sand changes annually; lightly used domestic pools should consider a sand change every four to five years.

A sand change will greatly enhance the filters effectiveness, as over time the sand wares and becomes engrained with dirt which backwashes don’t remove causing the water to develop channels in the sand bed; consequently the pool water is not filtered to the same standard over time and use.
